Watched Twister (1996). Very entertaining movie but not what I expected. I pressumed it would be a catastrophic film, yet it was very cheesy. Two groups of weather researches trying to outcompete themselves with their inventions to discover secrets of tornados, a constantly bickering estranged married couple, a silly band of sidekicks, constant quips. Helen Hunt was really good in it, haven't seen her in anything since Mad About You, which I used to watch a lot as a kid. The story may be kinda predictable but it is a good time.

Watched El Camino (2019). This is an epilogue film to Breaking Bad focused on Jesse dealing with aftermach of ending of the TV show. Quite enjoyable film, really like this more self-reflective, PTSD-ridden version of Jesse. It manages to neatly finish up his storyline while incorporating remaining side characters. Plus, we got some cameos that I guess foreshadowed how Better Call Saul will then go handle its final more meditative stretch, giving some hard-hitting emotional beats.
Yeah, I have played that one for a bit. Never fully dived into it. Didn't know that you can play indies like that with Netflix subscription.

Okay, here we go. Finished watching the final seventh season of Burn Notice (2013). This time the show is fully serialized with Michael being undercover try to infiltrate worldwide terrorist organization The villain is pretty charismatic and surprisingly fits the story well after two amazing previous villains, despite his goals being a little muddy. Honestly, pretty impressive season, much more character focused. The standout episode being one where the bad guy tries to dig deep into Michael's mind and he has to confront some uncomfortable truths about himself. As the plot progresses, the years of betrayal and trauma finally making him snap and question everything he believed in. Which culminates into a very thrilling and emotional final stretch, with everyone getting one last hardhitting time to shine. Despite the show being 7 seasons long and kinda lacking the direction of the main plot initially, it managed to craft a good narrative with very satisfying ending.
Bottom line: A very charming show blending thrills, comedy, action and occassionaly romance - quite nice how the main characters develop their relationship throughout the whole run. Just a fun older show without the overt pessimism or subversiveness modern productions tend to suffer with.

Definitely. Consistently good show with fun characters. It gets more serious in later seasons with a few darker moments but it is still very entertaining. They should make them cheap as they were. Original Blood remaster was 10 bucks. New one with tweaks only the most hardcore fans will notice costs 30. It garnered many negative reviews just for that.

Finished the fifth and final season of Prison Break (2017). This revival series is a mixed bag but rather good. The story mostly tones down the crazy plot twists of season 4 and writes mostly coherent story. It brings back most of the major characters and treats them fairy respectfully, except for Lincoln who seems like a moron who did not learn a thing from the past 4 seasons. While the main story is enjoyable and thrilling while also reintroducing personal stakes, it encounters common issues for legacy sequels - undoing earned conclusion to introduce a new conspiracy. Skimming or not mentioning important side details - status of Sucre's or C-Note's family does not help. Conceived as a miniseries in the streaming age has also damaged the season. Many things happen so fast and no new characters get enough time to get fleshed out outside of basic backstories or personality traits. They also do the "oh, this important guy had a son we never mentioned before" thing (twice in a single episode) - once being lazy way to add tension, second time being more interesting but being cut short abruptly. The ending is somewhat satisfying without a needless cliffhanger but pales in comparison to the original ending that was grandious and earned over the course of multiple seasons. Overall, Prison Break was an outstanding show for 2-3 seasons and then ran to the ground,

Watched Sadako vs Kayako (2016), a film merging two popular j-horror franchises together. It is alright. It breaks the rules but crafts servicable narrative and atmosphere. The scares are kinda basic and predictable. The characters are fine, but lack the depth of the original Ring. The Saeki house looks pretty bad in this film. Given it was directed by the madman Koji Shiraishi, it is surprisingly normal movie, outside of two cheesy anime psychic detectives and the crazy ending. I guess the studios did not let him to whatever he wanted with two big IPs. Since then, he mostly seems to be doing low budget stuff with fully creative control as he really seems like the guy who wants to entertain himself doing movies.

Finished watching Doctor John (2019). This is a medical drama about a doctor leaving prison after 3 year sentence he got for performing euthanasia. There, he met a younger doctor whose life has fallen apart after being in traumatic accident with her father. Soon, they start working together in the same hospital. Some interesting cases mixed with personal dealings and sad OST make for quite a comfy watch. The most interesting aspect of the show is that it does not have tradional villains. Instead, it opts for antagonists with differing views on ethics and morality. The romance is pretty nice but the female leads feels often too infatuated by the main guy. The worst part is the final episode that introduces really lame melodrama that makes the MC looks like a moron tanking his relationship and the plot tries really hard to sway the story his way.

This is an atmospheric mystery film by Kiyoshi Kurowasa about a police negotiator (played by Koji Yakusho, of course) who is sent on a vacation to rural village after a failed negotiation. He meets plethora of odd locals, each having their own ideas about the tree - some almost worshipping it, others trying to destroy it as they believe it is the cause of the rest of forest dying. The movie is beautifully shot and is quite eerie. Very artsy film about individualism vs collectivism. Quite enjoyable watch but not much to be taken on the surface level and you really need to dig into the themes to appreciate it.

just lost a slay the spire run at the last boss because of 1 hp. had a wonderful silent shiv + snake arm build going. basically invincible against normal enemies as well as elites, due to the insane burst damage in 1-3 turns and some relics giving free blocks for that duration.
sadly this last boss (snekdawg with 3 heads) needs a ramping style damage profile to properly win, so I cleared his first two heads easily with energy left over as well as my free relic block, but then for the last most powerful head I was somewhat shot out of ammo because no more free block, no extra draw and not substantially more powerful than in turn 1. it two hit me

from what I've found so far
swordguy is easiest, for his healing relic is op for the hardest part of the game (early) and he has the most diverse number of OP card+relic combinations available. especially the classic strike meta has become even better with setup strike and that power that plays every strike card on draw. but there's still feed, vulnerability, exhaust and strength power metas available too.
Silent has the shiv and the sly style, but sly is not easy to pull off and I usually get stuck in mid game with it. I have not yet managed to make poison work. I remember poison was the coolest in #1
orbguy has an easier time getting the power spam style to work now imo. and there's still the 0cost claw spam style.
from the new ones I like necrobinder the best, but it's definitely harder than the old 3. summoner style can work, but it doesn't scale well into mid and late game imo. doom I have not managed to make work either. it's basically poison but much much worse. the easiest style with it is probably the hand attack style, for it is quite versatile, bursty and resistant to debuffs
the kingguy I kinda dislike tbh. forge style can snowball extremely well for boss fights, but you can just lose against AOE elites/late enemies. star accumulation style is fun, but the cards to make it work you only really get in mid and late game

now that the chyna trip vlog series is over, I gotta say I would never ever go to china over korea or the japans. china seems to be the worst of both worlds. cities are overly modernized hellholes and the rural towns are ugly shitholes with the sometimes pretty nature being vandalized by unscrupulous mega infrastructure projects that get abaondoned 5 months later.
The food part was interesting and a fun part of the series in japan. But in china most of it looked like disgusting gutter oil trash tbh. I am not even slightly surprised that they both got food poisoning. It got so bad, that one of the guys was specifically ordering just plain white rice every time and would complain if he didnt get any. the whole rating system was made obsolete because they forced themselves to love everything. I think they had like one rating below an 8. what a joke. In japan they also had a positive bias and gave mostly good marks, but it was way more honest if something was trash. I get that they wanted to keep the morale high for the videos and likely wanted a decent propaganda piece, but it ruined that part of the show for me.
the show was still very entertaining and fun, but it increased my view of japan and confirmed my prejudice against china

Finished watching The Vision of Escaflowne (1996). This is an anime mixing fantasy adventure with mechas and shoujo elements. It has fantastic 90s look and charming music. The world building is pretty cool. It has probably influenced by Evangelion due to its slight psychological edge and occassional reality-bending scenes. It is fast-paced which keeps the viewer engaged, yet hearing how it was originally planned for the be longer, I kinda wish it allowed to let some locations, plotpoints and characters linger more. Overall, pretty intriguing show that demonstrated that isekai wasn't always synonym for bottom barrel trash.
