some of the guys i played football with when i was younger ended up going professional, i wasn't as good as them but sometimes i think "what if i'd worked harder", anyway the point is even as a pro they don't make that much money, could make more doing something else or maybe going part-time, but speaking to them the one thing they always say is "there's nothing else like hearing thousands of people singing your name"
these idols work 26-hour days, barely sleep during promotion, avoid the food they love for their diet, let their education slide, move away from their families etc, and unless they hit the big time they're not going to make proper money from it. what else can they do it for other than the gratification from interacting with fans?
