Only heard of The Babysitter and it keeps putting up on Netflix. But I think part of the genre appeal is the 80s vibe, people living mundane lives in simple times.

Was in the mood for a small town film, so I watched Phantasm (1979). Kinda cool horror movie about two brothers who go to a funnel of their friend who died under mysterious circumstances, yet to notice increasingly strange things occurring around the cementary and the strange funeral home owner. The plot is not that interesting and the conflict between brothers should have been explored more but the vibe of the film is pretty atmospheric. Low budget, few locations, the small town setting works well. There are a few creepy moments, yet some of the ideas are presented in very silly way. The highlight of the film is the cool synth soundtrack, heavily reminiscent of The Exorcist. Sadly, the ending is quite incoherent and confusing, not in a good way.
