A pirating app would get taken down because of legal issues so I don't see how that could become a problem.
Piracy was down very low in mid 2010's because people found platforms like Steam, Netflix and Spotify very convenient and you had all the content in one subscription fee making it affordable. As you said convenience is very important to people.
But in the past 2 years every major company has made it's own platform in order to make more money from the share. Now you have Disney+, Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, etc. Now normie shows are spread over many platforms that all have a subscription so it became unaffordable and very clunky to use. The piracy is rising quickly in the past two years.
So there you go, they figured it out, piracy was really low and they they all fucked it by being too greedy.
