I am watching better call saul for the first time and I gotta say it seems to me that they built up the hamlin-nim kinda wrong. he's used as some sort of super successful arrogant rich guy and he does have the face for it, but honestly all the plot point actions he does make him likeable in my eyes.
yeah it could be that he "pretends" to want mcgill senior back in the office for selfish reasons, but early on it's clear that the whole company would have to go bankrupt if it had to pay out mcgill. that's dozens of peoples lives he's fighting for.
and then the moves with jimmy he basically just did what scumbag mcgill senior told him to. even when jimmy slandered him etc. the way hamlin-nim acted towards jimmy were gracious. like giving jimmy a big bonus check and big percentage for the case thing. and recommending him to that other law firm when kim-ssi asked for it.
frankly, hamlin-nim might be the most likeable character in the whole breaking bad universe except maybe mike
