But how would people find out what actually interests them if they didn't even try it at all?
My friends sister became a molecular biochemist because she got really into biology and chemistry in HS. She would never have decided to go that way if her parents just put her through education focused on business so that she could inherit their two shops that sell windows and computers.
I am not saying the system is flawless, I dropped out of uni precisely because I felt like it was giving me fuckall actually useful stuff, but I feel like having broad education earlier on in ones life is pretty important.
I don't agree, most of what you learn in school will help you at some point, people who don't know anything past their own work are easily fooled
one of the harmful things about public education is that it's an excuse for people to get children they don't have time or will to care for
